Eco-friendly cookware brand, GreenPan, launches with Jenny Morris in South Africa

Creative Housewares, a leading manufacturer and distributor of appliances and housewares, has launched the international cookware brand GreenPan under its South African housewares brand, Monix, from the middle of July 2009. Jenny Morris aka the Giggling Gourmet and Creative Housewares have worked closely to find a cookware brand that is not only eco-friendly but also has all the convenience of non-stick. With GreenPan’s unique Thermolon coating they have found just that, and more.

GreenPan & Thermolon

GreenPan is a young, international company with headquarters in Belgium. To date GreenPan is available in 46 countries and has sold over 5.3 million pans worldwide. The technology that makes GreenPan different is the Thermolon™ coating, a patented mineral polymer based on ceramic materials that contains no PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and uses no PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) in its production process.

What does this mean?

Well, PTFE is the chemical name given to traditional non-stick coatings widely available on a number of products on our shelves today. The disadvantage of these coatings is that they decompose at temperatures exceeding 260°C releasing fumes that are noxious to the respiratory system. GreenPan’s Thermolon ceramic coating is resistant up to 450°C providing perfect non stick properties, is scratch resistant, durable and most importantly, contains not PTFE.

PFOA is used in the application process of your traditional non stick PTFE coatings and over recent years scientists have noticed an increase in PFOA levels in living organisms including humans and animals. There is much debate about how PFOA can affect peoples health so much so that in February 2006, the EPA's (Environmental Protection Agency, a US federal agency in charge of the protection of human health and the environment) Science Advisory Board voted to approve a recommendation that PFOA should be considered a 'likely' carcinogen. Additionally the EPA and a number of leading companies committed to phasing out the use of PFOA in all products by 2015. GreenPan’s Thermolon uses absolutely no PFOA in any part of its coating or production processes.

GreenPan was the first to launch PTFE and PFOA free cookware and is the worldwide market leader in its segment.

Eco-Friendly

GreenPan cares for your health by putting the environment first. GreenPan emits 60% less CO2 in the production process compared to the production process of PTFE coated fry pans. Only recycled material and bleach free dyes are used on the packaging and all bodies and handles are made from upcycled materials.

Jenny Morris

Jenny Morris has worked closely with Creative Housewares and Monix to bring this range of inspired cookware to help make life easier in the kitchen – with all the benefits of non stick but without the environmental and safety concerns. All GreenPan products have been tested and approved by Jenny Morris and as such been awarded her ‘J – Rated’ endorsement. Jenny has been appointed as the official brand ambassador for GreenPan and will be actively involved in educating the public on the use of PTFE and PFOA free coatings.
